The idea for this benefit golf tournament was conceived by a group of friends and family after Sam’s death in January 2008 when our community lost an amazing coach, friend, father, and husband. Sam’s scholarship benefits two high school soccer players furthering their education at the college/university of their choice.
We choose to honor Sam's legacy every year because Sam chose to live the game he loved: SOCCER. Sam spent nearly 30 years coaching for Bootleggers, Greeley Central, Greeley West, and Northridge. Soccer spoke to Sam in a way that made him feel alive and his love of soccer was always apparent to those around him. All he wanted was for kids to play the sport no matter their age, school, gender, or their ability . . . if a child had a desire to play soccer Sam was there for that child . . . just come to play. No child has ever been turned away from NorCo Rush due to financial concerns in large part because of the funds raised in this tournament.
